Weekend
You gotta love garage sales. Hubby and I went last Saturday and we got some nice things — two really pretty 14 x 20 (est.) framed artworks and two metal and fabric room dividers — for $10. And the guy was nice enough to thrown in an vintage enamelware tray for free :D. But the “find of the day” actually goes to MIL who bought a pearl bracelet at a church sale for 50 cents. It turned out to be a strand of nice-sized freshwater pearls with a 14k clasp. And the lucky recipient of said bracelet is moi!
I finally got my driver’s license after years of procrastinating so the next step was to shop for a vehicle. Not a good idea when it’s in the mid-90s, the sun is beating down on you and there is absolutely no breeze to cool one off. It’s very rare that MH and I disagree on something but it looks like we’ll have to chalk down “vehicle” in the short list. I’m kuripot so price is my first concern. I have a budget in mind and I narrow down my choices accordingly. Well, hubby is the opposite. He goes for what appeals to him and price is secondary. Well and good when you’ve got lots of moolah but not when you don’t.
Anyways, I was aiming for the cheaper Pontiacs and Saturns while he eyed the newer Dodges and Land Rovers. He was actually willing to buy a white Land Rover! That says a lot when I know he wouldn’t touch a white vehicle with a ten-foot pole. We went through several car lots but we couldn’t agree on what be both could live with. Honestly, I don’t know what the fuss is about since I’ll be driving the car, not him. All he has to do is pay for it. LOL!
After looking online once again, I found another dealer that has vehicles within our price range. Our preferences are narrowed down to a newer Ford Explorer Sport and Dodge Stratus and an older Honda CR-V. For some reason, Japanese cars hold their value better than their US counterparts. In this case, the Honda, even though it’s 4 years older, is more expensive than the other two vehicles. I would have liked a Toyota, too, but even the early to mid 90s models are still expensive. I’m leaning more towards the Explorer because it’s what I’m familiar with (albeit an older model) — it’s roomy and hefty — but the obvious drawback is fuel consumption (15/20 mpg). Hubby likes the Dodge because it gets 21/30 mpg and, I have to agree with him, it looks sporty (although my word choice would be “pretty”). It’s all up in the air right now until we can go to the dealership and look at the vehicles.
As soon as we got home, I turned on the sprinkler out on the deck and T and I cooled off. Even Ozzie joined in and got wet. I had to brush out his fur last night because it had gotten curly.
It’s supposed to be another scorcher today, 96F with a real-feel of 102F. We are staying indoors where it’s a comfortable 73F.
