Bummed!
Last Sunday was my day-off and I had just about everything mapped out…except for the one thing that blew my plans to smithereens!
T was supposed to go to the barber’s for a haircut, we were going to Lowe’s to pick out tile for our upstairs bathroom, pick up a few necessities from the grocer’s, sit down somewehere quiet for dinner, pick up a TV that a friend was giving us (ours refused to turn on) and then go back home, set up the old entertainment center to house the TV again.
Hubby started wondering if the glass & metal entertainment center would look okay in the living room. I said it would once the carpet is ripped out and the wood floor exposed. He started ripping the carpet off and to our dismay it was splattered with white paint. Uuuughhhhh!!!!! We were disappointed and…well, furious. We knew the floor wasn’t going to be perfect but if you were going to paint a room to make it look good, wouldn’t you take a bit of time to lay out something to protect the floor? Or maybe they thought it didn’t matter because they were going to lay carpet anyway. Hay naku!!!
I guess originally they had radiators on each side of the fireplace which they replaced with baseboard heaters. The holes through which the radiator tubes came through were covered with pieces of cut tin and nailed onto the floor. Yeah, you never know when someone’s going to fall through a quarter-size hole. LOL!!!
Needless to say, we have our work cut out for us. There are some water damaged spots which need to be replaced/patched. Since it’ll be hard to match the existing floor, the quick-fix is to rip the floorboards in the foyer and use those slats. We’ll replace those with tile/slate instead. Then the whole living room floor will have to be refinished. A lot of work which could be easily covered up with carpet but even in it’s sorry state, the wood floors appeal more to us.
