Monday, Monday
Got a lot of things accomplished today.
For some reason, I thought the training was at 9am so I was in a hurry to get to the Poydras office. Well, it was at 10am but unbeknown to some of us, it was moved to 9am and then to 8am. I missed an hour of it while JC and LC missed 2 hours. Anyways… it was cut short due to a scheduling conflict (there was plenty of that going around) so I was on my way home shortly after 1pm. I didn’t go to the office anymore after training since hubby and I were going to do some running around.
Finally got my vehicle registration transfered from MI to LA. I don’t know why but for some reason hubby’s registration is good for 4 years while mine is for 2. We were so used to renewing it every year in MI. I also got a new license plate so my personalized pretty MI plate has been officially retired.
Next thing we’ll need to do is to secure an annual brake tag which is required in LA. From what I understand, all it is is you bring your car to an authorized inspection place where they check…well, your brake lights, headlights, turn lights, and horn, I guess. You have to get it done in the parish where you reside and in our case, we have to pay $8 more to “test for emissions.”
We also went to City Hall to file our homestead exemption for this year. Anytime we have to do business with the government, we always dread it but this was relatively painless. We not only got our 2009 exemption filed, we ended up filing 2010 as well.
Since we parked next to the library downtown, it made sense to visit them and check out some books. I finally got hold of Bibi Gaston’s “The Loveliest Woman in America” which I had been waiting to read since last year. I also checked out two Lily Bard books by Charlaine Harris. I haven’t read any of her books but I thought I’d give it a try. She wrote the books on which they based the HBO series “True Blood.”
This year we got our 2008 taxes done by an H&R Block agent. I previously did ours online but 2008 was a little more complicated. Aside from the federal return, we had to do 2 states and we had rental income as well as moving expenses. Good news, we don’t have to pay anything…except for the tax preparation fee which was quite hefty. Mental note: don’t forget to claim expense next year.
T’s on spring break (since Friday) and won’t have to go back to school until Thursday. Hubby took three days off so he can stay home with T and work on the house some more. Tomorrow’s his b-day and hopefully he’ll get his present tomorrow.
Countdown: 4 days till the French Quarter Festival starts. 5 days till The Crawfish Boil.
