Goodbye Ford Explorer
You have served us well.
Friday, Feb. 20th around 7:30am, MH calls and calmly tells me, “My car is totaled.” He was on his way to work and was only two blocks away when some guy ran a red light and got in his path. Hubby t-boned the other guy’s car who shockingly speeds away. In the meantime, hubby was patting down his deployed airbags and manages to drive his car from the middle of the road to a parking lot a few feet away. Thank God hubby was not hurt.
So I drive to the scene where a couple of police officers were taking down MH’s statement and info. Our Ford was a sorry mess. I knew there was no way it was ever going to be fixed. It has met it’s demise and in a not-so-dignified way. It has seen us through good and bad times. It was the vehicle I first drove. It safely got MH to NOLA. It survived Gustav. It was a workhorse.
After battling it out with Allstate — the other party’s insurance company — for weeks, we can soon put Ford to rest. We’re looking for another vehicle but I doubt if it will measure up to it’s predecessor.
